World on-screen animation that looks fun and sparkling glass that actually save bitterness workers. Behind the scenes, the animation business panting survive with makeshift equipment and working capital mediocre. In the city of Bandung, West Java, for example, there is no animation studio that is not battered.
At the office Kojo Anima, Canal Road Tubagus Ismail Indah, Bandung, the movie character voice-overs done in the mosque. When he was not there a prayer, a room measuring only about 3 x 3 square meters studio is so small. In the corner sat a small space cardboard rolls, a small table, and pieces of newspaper. There is no longer sufficient space in there so the mosque must be a studio.
Animation business is run in a small house. In some parts of the wall paint is peeling. Similarly, in the main part of the house. All equipment used is simple. The most modern equipment, namely a regular desktop computer as much as seven units.
At the office of Work Acintyarupa Nagaya, animated films are also born from the stuffy room. Making animation work is only performed in the rented room measuring 4 x 4 square meters filled by eight people with weapons are a set of computers. Actually there is one more empty space which is managed by Work Acintyarupa Nagaya. However, until now not be used because it is still waiting for the other computer devices.
"It was only last September we moved here. Previously, we stayed in the office of a friend's animation. We rented two rooms in the amount of Rp 30 million per year with cash money offices. Only one room that we can use. One other room to store goods and place of prayer, "said one of the founders of Work Acintyarupa Nagaya, Andrew Kharisma Putra.
In addition, because renting a room that is part living room, the limitations of electric power also affects their performance. With a power equal to 2200 volt ampere (VA), only eight computers they can operate. To add another device it was not possible for fear of electrical household will die when the new equipment installed.
"We've tried to install new equipment for the process of creating and editing animated. As a result, all the house lights off because its not possible anymore," said Andri.
However, the animation business survive. Without government support and subsidies, some not going out of business because of idealism. Kojo Anima has made more than 150 animated films. His films have always been charged locally.
Kojo founder Anima, Andrew, admitted must menomboki animation business from another business. He runs a tin mill and construction business in Jakarta. In fact, the cost of making animated movies is not cheap. Each episode takes an additional Rp 30 million-USD 50 million with a duration of 30 minutes. Simple equipment to make every film completed up to three months.
"So, do not be surprised if the quality of local animated films are still often compared to that of foreign products," said Andrew.
However, demand from television stations to make a better movie actually makes it vibrant. In fact, a sense of nationalism grew out of a local animation films. Lifestyle, cultural, and linguistic local animation will be closer to the audience, especially children.
"I hurried kecemplung / already entered the world of animation. To expand the animated world of Indonesia, I've run out of money and time," he explained.
While Andrew exemplifies the three-dimensional animated series titled Tumaritis artificial Acintyarupa team works Nagaya. Stories about life Cepot, Semar, Gareng, and Dawala it has now made six films in a short demonstration with a total duration of 24 minutes per episode. Tumaritis claimed to have advantages in the quality movement, stories, and strong character as well as sell.
"The average episode of filmmaking with a dynamic quality that usually requires a cost of Rp 40 million up to Rp 50 million per episode," he said.
While foreign animated films kept pounding. Upin and Ipin from Malaysia, for example, is so popular with the children of Indonesia. Not to mention the Dora The Explorer, Spongebob Squarepants, and The Penguins of Madagascar from the United States. Andrew pointed out, Malaysia is more advanced animation because its government supported by channeling funds to the industry.
"If you think about it, actually the quality of Indonesia no less animated. Only, the animation industry is difficult to develop because markets are not available," he said.
Animator from Bandung, Ivandra Witnando (32), said the benefits of animators Indonesia visible when their services are used in Malaysia. Indonesia Salary beginner animator in Malaysia about 12 million per month.
"They do not hesitate to pay dearly because of animators know that Indonesia can support the development of animation. The quality of animation is good to give economic value to the private sector. The country wins when animation was sold on the market," said Ivan.
Andrew still make movies even though there is no television station orderer. If already completed, the new movie is offered to television stations. Films that have not aired saved first.
"We often underestimate our own people's work. Therefore, Indonesia is not an animated film to host in their own country," he said.
Andrew just hope the local animation more often aired for the public aware of the domestically produced films. Other impacts, the industry is also growing with souvenir sales figures animation. Souvenirs like mugs, sweatshirts, children's toys, and posters.
Multimedia and communications Observer Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Suhono Supangkat, say, the potential for animation in Indonesia still needs a lot of attention. Currently, Indonesia is still running animation flow sporadically and walk respectively. Step synergy between the government as the policy holder, as the holder of private capital, and animators as artists not yet well ordered.
"It takes faith and a spirit of togetherness of all parties to build animations that are not only capable of generating economic value, but also accommodate the creation of the creative community," said Suhono.
