NEW YORK - China's online population figure rose to 457 million in 2010, as the use of smart phones to surf the internet to spread rapidly, according to a report from an industry group.
China Internet Network Information Centre (CNNIC) said that China's Internet population 50 percent larger than the entire population in the U.S.. Grew 19 percent in 2010 from a year earlier. Similarly, as quoted from Physorg, Thursday (01/20/2011).
While the number of users in China who surf the Internet using mobile phones increased 29.6 percent from the year 2009, to 303 million.
The Chinese government actively promotes the internet for business and education, although they are still applying stringent censorship for subversive and pornographic content.
Number of users who use online commerce and Internet entertainment services also grew rapidly in 2010. CNNIC said that the number of e-commerce customers rose 48.6 percent during 2009.
Increased Internet usage in China is driven by economic growth which rose nearly 10 percent last year.
