WASHINGTON - The stigma that Internet users are reclusive and antisocial figure seems to be rethinking. Pew Research Center revealed, Internet users, especially those who are fond of using social networking sites, tended to be more active in organizing volunteer than those who are not online.
Of all respondents, the 2303 adult citizens of the United States, Pew found 80 percent of Internet users participate in some group. While those who do not use the internet only record 56 percent, according to as reported by Yahoo News, Tuesday (18/01/2011).
On social networking sites, that number is even slightly higher. Recorded 85 percent of users of social networking sites actively participating in the activities of the organization.
The survey also found that Facebook is believed to be 62 percent of respondents are the most popular digital communication tools used by the group. This figure is much higher than those that use microblogging site, Twitter is only 12 percent of respondents considered it, as media organizations.
In addition, 48 percent of respondents who admitted active in the group has an account on a social networking site. Another 30 percent of active respondents have personal blogs, while 16 percent communicate with other group members via Twitter.
The study also found that Internet users are more active participants in their respective groups, rather than other members. They also tend to be more proud of his group activities.
Not only active in organizing activities, Pew also found that if Internet users tend to go to church or participating in spiritual activities than those who do not use the internet.
