VIVAnews - Perhaps this is the price of an arrogant power. In Tunisia, President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, down from the seat of power in a way embarrassing. He fled abroad, unable to stem the anger of the people.
Although it has been in power 23 years in the north African country, Ben Ali had stepped down because he did not hear the complaints of a handyman vegetables.
Is Mohamed Bouazizi, a handyman vegetables, which sparked popular anger over the ruling. He was young, age 26 years. He was desperate to burn himself, after police confiscated his wares in the town of Sidi Bouzid on December 17, 2010. For days hospitalized, Bouazizi finally died on January 4, 2011.
Bouazizi is the face of people who suffer from Tunisia. The country was hit by the food crisis. Employment is difficult, and people in political life no matter the criticism.
Not much choice for young men like Bouazizi. The man is a pillar of the family, and he must support his mother and sister. That is why, Bouazizi work anything, including a vegetable and fruit sellers.
Not really clear educational background. CNN news station called the young man as an undergraduate computer. Graduated from college, Bouazizi difficult to get a job like any other scholar in Tunisia. It makes Bouazizi forced mengasong, selling vegetables and fruit.
But, his sister Samia Bouazizi gave different versions, as reported by Gulf News page. "My brother was 26 years old, and never graduated high school. So he sells fruit and vegetables to feed herself, and family, "says Samia.
On December 17, 2010, is an unlucky day for Bouazizi. Police seized goods wares. The reason, he traded without permission. The poor man then complained to the governor's office in Sidi Bouzid. He asked for justice. Simple demands: he asked for merchandise returned, and allowed to trade back.
But, the cry Bouazizi like lost in the wind. Not an official in the office care. Bouazizi was hopeless. He then risked: flushed him with oil, then lit a fire. In front of the imperious governor's office that was his body on fire.
Although his body engulfed in flames, soul Bouzizi not float. Part of his body burned, and he was arrested painful days in hospital. But due to severe burns, Bouazizi eventually died.
The incident then jerking Tunisian citizens. Bouazizi such a tragic spokesman for their fate. In the midst of food crisis, unemployment clapped Tunisia. Price of basic necessities, like bread, wheat and sugar, soared not be bought. People were angry. Demonstrations erupted, and anger spread to all over the country.
More than a week after setting himself on fire Bouazizi, President Ben Ali visited the poor youth. He came to the hospital on December 28, 2010. But Ben Ali did not care about the anger of the people. He even put a stamp of terrorists, the protesters are troublemakers.
Ben Ali even deploy security forces reduce the mass action. The victim fell down. Hatred of Ben Ali and his regime the craze. Ben Ali was shocked, but her former power through a bloodless coup in 1987, too late. The anger of the people no longer unstoppable.
"I am aware of the demands of the people of Tunisia. Tunisia People then spilled into the street. They demanded that Ben Ali down. Finally, on January 14, 2011, Ben Ali, who no longer believed that people were secretly fled to Saudi Arabia along with his family.

Action Bouazizi even became the inspiration for neighboring countries. Over the past 15 to 18 January 2011, already 10 people burn themselves in protest to the government. They came from Egypt, Algeria and Mauritania. Two people were reportedly killed, the rest is in critical condition. (Np)
