MANILA - Philippine National Police now have a new enemy in the world of crime, namely Facebook. Social networking sites, according to police Philippines become a new tool which triggered the crime, especially sexual crimes.
Many criminals use Facebook to attract victims. Make contact through Facebook and asked her out and then culminate in bed. Police often find cases where the suspect spread the message through Facebook and text message, especially to children under age.
"Criminals are often invited children, teenagers to get into the group. They have a network to make sexual activity," said police Senior Superintendent, Agrimero Cruz as reported by the SMH on Monday (11/10/2010).
Police, continued Cruz, said it had arrested a number of people using Facebook and mobile phones as a tool to search for victims of rape.
"We are still investigating, on average, the suspect will be charged with rape," he said.
In fact, continued Cruz, many rape victims who came from Facebook. But all the victims are reluctant to report it to the police station.
The Philippines is known as a country that actively using social networking. 30 percent of the Philippine population has Internet access. So the crime through cyberspace is a special problem to the attention of police.
