JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Chinese government will encourage Chinese companies to engage in infrastructure development in Indonesia. It was announced by the Chairman of Parliament of the People's Republic of China Wu Bang Guo when he attended a dinner of the Institute for Cooperation on Economic, Social, and Culture of Indonesia-China, on Tuesday (09/11/2010) in Jakarta.
According to him, in the fields of trade, bilateral trade volume could reach 40 billion U.S. dollars this year and is expected to reach 50 billion U.S. dollars in 2014. "This cooperation can be expanded in the fields of investment, finance, industry, agriculture, fisheries, and even defense. The government would take PRC PRC companies to engage in infrastructure development in Indonesia," he said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Institute for Cooperation on Economic, Social, and Culture of Indonesia-China Sukamdani Sahid Gitosardjono argues, if looking back, then the value of bilateral trade in 1984 only 232 million U.S. dollars, 1990, 1.466 billion U.S. dollars, and in 2009 climbed to 30 billion U.S. dollars.
