KOMPAS.com - On average we spend 120 grams of plastic to wrap Christmas presents. The amount that will accumulate proportional to the number of people who use them. Especially important regarding environmental issues, because almost all can not be recycled.
Because of its energy needs only 50 thousand pounds per year, then this technique is commercially very attractive to industry.

But, now there is a new innovation from the scientists at the University of Warwick, England. The scientists succeeded in developing a technique so that 100 percent of the plastics used can be recycled, broken down into simpler molecules and are used again to make another product.
The technique is named pyrolisis, a decomposition technique based on the use of heat in the absence of oxygen to convert the complex into simpler compounds. This technique is said to be able to change the polymer polystyrene monomer, styrene.
It said these scientists, a plastic compound which has been described with this technique can be reprocessed into products. This technique produces wax that can be used for lubricant, styrene monomer which can be used to make polystyrene again, and carbon that can be used as a dye paint or tires.
Currently, a technique originally developed in the laboratory scale was tested to be applied on an industrial scale. Warwick Ventures, a unit at Warwick University which is responsible for the development of technology transfer is hoped that these techniques can be applied in local areas.
"We expect that the plant can process 10,000 tons of plastic per year. Each reactor later can produce chemical compounds whose value reached 5 million pounds," said Professor January Baeyens, a scientist who helped develop this technique.
Furthermore, he says, every reactor that will be used for waste management can cut costs of 500 thousand pounds.
"Because of its energy needs only 50 thousand pounds per year, then this technique is commercially very attractive to industry," he added.
Besides can be used to recycle plastic Christmas gift wrap, these techniques can also be used to process plastic products Other tanggga home. This technique is said to be far more effective than current plastic processing techniques are only capable of processing 12 percent of plastic only.
