TOKYO - Japanese Publishers sued the computer giant United States (U.S.), Apple because the votes have been selling pirated copies of the novel online at Apple's online bookstore. Pirated books including the novel by famous Japanese writer Haruki Murakami, titled '1 Q84 '.
"We have no other choice. Apple has illegally distributing a book that clearly violates copyright,"said a member of a consortium of Japanese publisher said in a statement sent to Apple, as reported by Terranet, Wednesday (12/15/2010).
The consortium consists of Japanese publisher Book Publishers Association, the Japan Magazine Publishers Association, the Electronic Book Publishers Association of Japan, and Digital Comic Association.
"Some of it was removed in response to requests from authors and publishers, but the majority of them continue to be distributed illegally,"the statement said.
The consortium called for Apple to set back the pattern of distribution to deal with pirated books and to combat digital piracy.
"We'd rather sit at a table with Apple and work together to establish new rules for the digital network era. We asked Apple to take responsible action,"the consortium in his statement.
