KOMPAS.com - In 2030, Pakistan shifted Indonesia as the country with the largest Muslim population. This is the latest research from The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life. The study entitled "The Future of Global Muslim Population" is seeing a trend of Pakistan's population growth is more rapid than Indonesia.
In 2010, Pakistan is 96 percent Muslim population is estimated to have 178 million Muslims. The Muslim population of Indonesia, which reached 88 percent of the total Indonesian population now consists of nearly 205 million people.
In 2030, Pakistan is estimated to have 256 million Muslims, while Indonesia around 239 million inhabitants.
Then, in the same year, the number of Muslims around the world reached 2.2 billion people and represents 26.4 percent of the world's population. This figure is up from 1.6 billion inhabitants in 2010.
The study also estimates that over the next 20 years the number of Muslim population continues to grow although the growth rate declined, from 2.2 percent in 1990-2010 to 1.5 percent.
Slowing the growth rate of Muslims, according to the report, due to decreasing birth rates, especially as more and more educated Muslim women, the rising standard of living, and urbanization.
