SAN FRANCISCO - Yahoo is focusing to create a service which is a mixture of digital publications that can be used for tablet computers and other mobile devices. This is how Yahoo to lure advertisers from print and broadcast media.
This service, called Livestand, will also be open to other publishers to find ways to connect with tens of millions of tablets such as Apple Inc. iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab. Livestand also be available on smart phones.
Readers can choose from a variety of frequently updated content including news, sports, finance and other topics. Most of the content will be provided free of charge, although Yahoo plans to allow publishers to sell subscriptions as well.
Launched by AP, on Friday (02/11/2011), though Yahoo introduces Livestand to reporters on Thursday, but this time the service was not yet available. Yahoo expects Livestand to debut in late June.
Digital newsstand is a new market on the touch screen tablet that will provide new revenue for publishers and other business-based advertising such as Yahoo.
Apple is building a newsstand at the iTunes store, and last week began selling subscriptions to a daily newspaper called The Daily News Corp. that is designed specifically for the iPad.
