Data protection authorities in Spain to ask Google to remove certain links 100 articles from their search listings.
LONDON - Authorities in Spain's data protection request that Google remove certain links 100 articles from their search listings.
Five of these articles will be brought to trial in Madrid this week by a team of Google as part of their resistance. Similarly, as quoted from SearchEngineWatch, Wednesday (19/01/2011).
Google denies that they are only providing these links only and is not responsible for the content published by other websites. The company also stated that measures such as banning a large disturbance on freedom of expression.
Meanwhile, the Spanish claimed that they were just trying to block 'sensitive material', published on websites.
If Google's success in court so they do not have to remove the link. But if Google loses they have to censor the link from the search. But ironically the article is still there on the website though the link is removed.
"The most worrisome is why they are even pointing to Google, not to the person who put these sensitive content on the website," says Padraig Reidy, the editor of Index on Censorship.
"If the search engines punish Spain for indexing content, how can there be freedom of expression? It seems the plan is run by people who do not understand how the Internet works," said Reidy.
